Kaizen (Constant And Never Ending Improvement) is the key to Magento’s success. Magento keeps on improving the platform to deliver better eCommerce experiences. Recently, Magento has just released Magento 2.2.6 (another stable update for Magento 2) with 25 critical enhancements to product security, more than 150 core code fixes , and over 350 community-submitted pull requests.
Apart from this, there are numerous security enhancements to help you keep your store safe from hackers trying to steal your customer’s information.
Improved Performance Capabilities:
Magento has improved their performance benchmarks to a great extent. With Magento 2.2.6, you get maximum performance with minimum resources. Here are some of the significant performance enhancements:
– Category product indexer logic has been greatly optimized. The re-indexing time has decreased up to 98%, from 40 minutes to one minute for 100,000 categories.
– The catalog rule re-indexing operation has been optimized, and the average re-indexing time (which depends on rule conditions) has improved by more than 80%. Previously, a full catalog rule re-index operation on a medium B2C store took more than 20 minutes.
– The execution time of the command, “catalog:image:resize” has been greatly reduced (up to 90%). However, to make this command work as it’s supposed to, you would require to perform following steps:
– Page load speed for home page has been reduced to a great extent.
Apart from these, there are numerous other minor and major enhancements made by Magento to make this release better than rest.
Improvements In Checkout Process:
Magento has made significant improvements to make the checkout process as smooth as possible. With Magento 2.2.6, all the items placed in the cart remains as is even when the checkout page is repeatedly refreshed.
This is not all. Refreshing the checkout page no longer deletes the shipping address when a guest checks out. This wasn’t the same with previous versions of Magento. This is a major enhancement which improves the overall user experience.
Moreover, Magento has greatly improved the order placing speed when multiple shipping methods are available. Older version of Magento took up to 20 seconds to place an order if multiple shipping methods were involved. However, with this update, order placing speed is no longer affected by number of shipping methods involved.
Other Enhancements:
Magento 2.2.6 brings better product sorting options. No longer will the products which are out-of-stock and disabled child products by displayed upon sorting a catalog. Apart from this, Magento will no longer send duplicate delete requests under unstable Internet connection.
Moreover, with this update, Magento has improvised their core bundled extensions as well. Major and minor enhancements to Amazon Pay, dot-mailer, Klarna, have been made to enhance the overall user experience. Some of Magento’s core functions like, Click & Collect, and Batch processing are also greatly improved.
Final words…
It is safe to say that Magento has improved multidimensionally with this latest release. And if you are still running your Magento store on any lower version than 2.2.6, it’s time for an update. Magento always recommends to keep your store updated to the latest version released. This way you can cut through a good deal of potential threats to your store.
Moreover, if you haven’t migrated to Magento 2 yet, now is the time to do so. According to a recent update by Magento, they won’t be supporting Magento 1 any more. However, the ongoing support for Magento 1 will be continued till June 2020. Hence, now is the right time to upgrade your store to Magento 2.2.6!
