Magento’s quarterly update is here as it releases the latest version – Magento 2.4.2.
The pre-release notes are already out and the update will be available for general use from February 9, 2021. The latest release has many significant changes to the core update that includes platform performance enhancements, security patch upgrades, B2B improvements, and many such code enhancements. To be precise, the release comes with over 280 new fixes to core code, and over 30 security enhancements. These community contributions range from tiny clean-up of core code to significant enhancements in GraphQL. Also, the identified issues in the previous update, i.e., Magento 2.4.1 have been addressed to further improve the overall performance.
Now let’s dwell separately on the parts that got enhancements via Magento 2.4.2 release:
Magento Merchants will now be able to install time-sensitive security fixes without having to apply numerous functional fixes that a full quarterly release provides. These security-only patches include security bug fixes and not the additional security enhancements that come with the full patch. Head over to Magento security-patch code installation DevBlog to have a clear idea.
Additionally, over 35 other security enhancements that help close remote code execution (RCE) and cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities are released. These include cookie support to SameSite attribute, message display for the potential threat, standardized file operations across Magento components, and fixing of the Core Content Security Policy (CSP) violations.
Magento 2.4.2 introduces B2B v1.3.1. This includes support for online payments for purchase orders and multiple bug fixes for the B2B eCommerce merchants.
The localization and internationalization are given prime importance in this entire 2.4.2 release. With that, Venia now provides support for multiple languages and currencies.
Other upgrades include:
Page Builder content migration and Page Builder CSS customization have been enhanced with the new 2.4.2 release.
Magento 2.4.2 release has included Adobe Stock Integration v2.1.1, framework and functional improvements in the areas of Customer Account, Catalog, Staging and Preview, Import/Export, Promotions and Targeting, Cart and Checkout, CMS, OMS, and B2B. Other than that, there are significant upgrades for the AWS framework and Media Gallery. You can get detailed information about this release from the 2.4.2 notes available on the DevBlog community.
